  What is studio scale
Posted by: Scifiguy - Yesterday, 02:18 AM - Forum: Star Wars Studio Scale Model Talk - No Replies

I make lots of model kits, the smaller Bandai Star Wars ones I love. I also once made a big Jupiter 2 from Lost in Space until my dog knocked it off the table. I know scales like 1/32 scale and 1/72 scale etc.

But what is studio scale? Is it a certain size or dimension? Or is it slang. I see it on Facebook sometimes in model groups but no one seems to clarify it?

I love Science Fiction, and there is no end to what I like in that subject area. But what is your top five Science Fiction movies and why? I have an endless list but if I had to name five which I am, then they would be.

  1. Star Wars the first one.
  2. Star Trek the Wrath of Khan.
  3. Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
  4. Blade Runner the original one with Harrison Ford.
  5. Heavy Metal the 1981 cartoon. Saw it at the drive in, and it blew my mind.

So what are yours?

  Top Fantasy movies

I love Science Fiction, but also Fantasy, I think sometimes they can go hand in had. But what is your top give Fantasy movies and why? I have an endless list but if I had to name five which I am, then they would be.

  1. Conan the Destroyer, some old school hack and slashing does a Saturday night good.
  2. Dragonslayer, wow the dragon in that one you just knew was an evil SOB.
  3. Labyrinth, not a fan of David Bowie, but in this movie I think he did really well. Love the characters, creatures. And Meg the swamp hag holy smokes.
  4. Time Bandits, the mind that thought of that movie is either brilliant or insane. Wowsers what a movie.
  5. Lord of the Rings, the 1978 cartoon. Compared to todays animation nor really detailed, but it to me was just so good and well done.

I really would like to know what everyone else's faves are? If you have more than five list them.  Big Grin

  Battlestar Galactica Question
Posted by: Scifiguy - 11-28-2025, 06:12 PM - Forum: Off Topic Science Fiction - No Replies

I am a huge fan of science fiction of any kind. But Battlestar Galactica I think is unique as it has two "versions" that are based on the same or very close timeline, but use the same characters. Now thinking about this I have seen them all, all the episodes from both versions.

I really do think the new reboot is the best, and my thinking is this. The thing I like about the new version over the original is weapons and communications. I love how the weapons are not laser guns. I like the more old school "realistic" basis of the weapons. I also, love how they talk over the radios and it is static filled, rough.

Now my only real dislike is the Cylons and their ships. I really wish the Cylon ships were more similar to the originals and also the Cylons themselves, although updated were more "similar" to the originals. I would love to know about everyone elses thoughts on this?

Yeah I am new, yeah I don't know much about forums. But I would love to see a general scifi chat forum here. Where we can talk the movies etc, that do not involve props or models. I am a massive fanof TV and movies, so for me it would be a huge bonus. Just a bit of opinion as this is the place to give them.

I wish this place massive luck. Keep up all this good work.

I am the Scifi Guy, I am from a small little town in Virginia, we have a stop light and that is about it. I have been making models only for about five years. I am 48 and married for 24 years. No kids to share my passion with. But I love Star Wars, Star Trek, Space 1999, Doctor WHO, Babylon 5 and am a massive Apollo history buff.

I hope this place does well, I already like it.

  Welcome to The Maker Forum
Posted by: FalconFX Studio - 11-28-2025, 03:51 PM - Forum: Member Introductions - Replies (1)

Hello everyone, I am creator of this forum, and operate the FalconFX Youtube channel. Also soon an online store that caters to makers, model makers and prop makers. I bit about me.

I have been building models since I was 10 years old. I gravitated towards more technical models, then into props about 15 years ago. I am a huge lover of making things. I do everything from Scifi to Military or Fantasy and more. I really love to help others, and hope everyone gets a lot from this web forum.

My plan is to be welcoming, give members a space to talk, share and sell. I am a lover of free speech, and I just ask to keep it civil. If anyone has any problems just drop me a PM here or an email at falconfxstudio@gmail.com and I will be happy to help as much as possible.

Cheers!

  Best printer for newbie
Posted by: Scifiguy - 11-28-2025, 03:38 PM - Forum: 3D Printing Stuff - No Replies

I am new to the idea of 3D printing but want to learn. What is the best printer to get if I want to make things, but also has a short learning curve. I have read there are ones called Bambu's? and Enders? But when I look there are so many kinds of machines, I am not sure where to go with them.

Also, is resin printing better and more simple? It seems to be. But again I know NOTHING AT ALL about 3D printing. Any help would be great.

Glad to see a new place to talk models and things Scifi. I am a huge lover of anything scifi and make a ton of models. I really want to one day make a big scale enterprise or maybe even a larger Millennium Falcon.  Big Grin

I mainly make smaller stuff like 1/72 scale Star Wars, also figures. I know this place is new but if anyone else sees this what do you make?
